To provide essential resources to overcome the many faces of hunger and human need.

Message from Director

A Word of Thanks...

Marie Jachino, Executive DirectorDear Friends,

First, I would like to thank the entire community for supporting this year's Holiday Food Drives.  We are grateful to the Elk Grove Unified School District for supporting the annual KCRA Kids Can, civic groups, churches, girl scouts and so many local businesses.

Our official Holiday Food Drive partners, Raley's and Bel Air and Sprouts do an amazing job with holiday grocery bags.  They make giving easier for customers to donate by preparing pre-packed bags with our most needed food items.

This holiday season is when EGFBS is the busiest.  When most of us are celebrating with big traditional meals, EGFBS is distributing more food than ever to our neighbors facing hunger.  We continue to expand targeting distribution sites where people need help the most.  In fact, we've just added our third Senior Brown Bag program at Renwick Square.

We've also launched a new initiative that will help ensure our neighbors have enough food to eat during the holidays.  Our usual Turkey Drive was expanded this year to include all the food for a thanksgiving meal, including vegetables and fruit.

Hunger is not just a problem for the homeless person on the street; the children whose father lost his job; or the senior living on a fixed income.  Hunger is an issue for all of us to solve, and it's not just about food.  It's about access, jobs and dignity.  We've worked hard to ensure that 94 cents of every dollar you give to EGFBS goes directly to our programs and hunger relief.

As we celebrate our "40" years of service in 2014 and continue to evolve, one constant is our commitment to stretching every donated dollar as far as it can go.  Elk Grove Food Bank Services is positioned to scale our operation, to improve efficiency, and to drive down our cost per pound of food distributed... all of which will increase our impact.

Again, I thank all of our supporters who helped us this holiday season and throughout the year.  Your donations, and your gift of time and treasure have enriched our journey over the past 40 years.

Mark your calendards for our 10th Annual Run 4 Independence at Elk Grove Regional Park on Saturday, June 28, 2014.  For more information please visit our website at www.run4independence.com.
