What’s Available – Adults and Children

The Elk Grove Clothes Closet offers a variety of methods for Adults and Children to receive clothing.

The Clothes Closet hosts several “Share Your Clothes” days throughout the year where adults (and their families) can select clothes from those donated. These events are usually on a Saturday and are publicized in the local newspaper and the Food Bank. All donations can be dropped off at the Elk Grove Food Bank.

  • Our next "Share Your Clothes Day" will be hosted by St. Joseph's Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road, just across the street from the Elk Grove Regional Park. It will be held on January 19, 2008 from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Donations may be dropped off Thursday or Friday evenings, January 17th and 18th.
  • Volunteers needed for set-up and clean-up on Friday and Saturday. Community Service credit is available. For more information, contact Cathy O'Neil at cmoneil@macnexus.org, or show up on either day to volunteer.

The Elk Grove Clothes Closet serves the children of the Elk Grove Unified School District in three ways:

  • “Coat Days” – Volunteers from Elk Grove Community Food Bank Services will bring warm clothing – jackets, sweatshirts and sweaters – the school requesting a Coat Day. Children identified by their teachers to be in need are then invited to select their own clothes from the choices donated.
  • “Request for Clothing: District Mail” – A school employee who sees a child in need of clothing may submit a “request for clothing” through district mail and the Elk Grove Clothes Closet will send a package of clothes to the child’s school.
  • “Uniforms” – Nearly half of the schools in the Elk Grove Unified School District require uniforms – white shirts or blouses with a collar and navy blue slacks – for their students. We try to give each child one new and one recycled uniform plus a couple of pairs of white socks.
